History of William Penn University


William Penn University was originally founded by Quaker pioneers in 1873 with the ideal of providing quality education to adult students. The foundation of William Penn University was designed to establish an institution that would encourage a disciplined curriculum where adult students can earn an advanced continuing education. The first lectures at William Penn University were delivered in 1873, integrating a framework for education with dignity, respect and academic excellence. Today, William Penn University offers students a range of opportunities from excellent academic programs and a caring faculty to extracurricular activities and athletics.

William Penn University is dedicated to providing a liberal arts education with a strong leadership focus. The William Penn University campus in Des Moines, Iowa provides adult students with the opportunity to interact with fellow students, faculty, staff and administrators as they earn an accredited associate’s or bachelor’s degree. The unique adult degree program format is designed to fit into the busy adult’s life, with courses taught by academically qualified business professionals that place an emphasis on small groups working in teams.
